Approximately 70 people attended a morning workshop in the Press room at the Rose Bowl Friday morning sponsored by 44th District Assemblyman Anthony Portantino.
Portantino invited public education advocates, parents, teachers and school board members to discuss legislative perspectives on the budget and the current state of that process.
Ron Bennett, President and CEO of Social Services of California also spoke of the importance of grassroots organizations and meetings to discuss the ways each of us can help during a financial crisis.
After a few speeches and a few question and answer session, the guests divided into small focus groups each with a plan on how to address certain issues in school district without relying on the state.
“Public Education is a vital investment that we should be making on behalf of our children and future generations of children, as well as for the health of the state’s future workforce and economy.” Anthony Portantino said.
This forum provided information about the proposed state budget and how it could effect public education. “Additionally, it will provide suggestions on what topics advocates should be focusing and how efforts could be coordinated and will allow advocates from across the 44th Assembly District to share their past efforts and discuss possible future collaborations.”
