Arcadia Library Concert 2008-2009 Series Announced

The Arcadia Public Library Foundation has announced their concert series for the 2008-2009 season of four concerts, the first to be held Oct. 1 in the Cay Mortenson Auditorium at the Library. Concerts are held Wednesdays at 7 p.m. and are free to the public. Concert dates are Oct. 1, Dec. 3, Feb. 4, and April 29.

The opening concert brings two outstanding Chinese musicians to perform songs on native instruments.  Zhiming Han is an expert on the dizi, a bamboo flute and Cynthia Hsiang is a noted zheng or zither player.

The series bears the title “A Classical Kaleidoscope” to indicate the broad appeal of their programs.

The second concert will present accordionist/composer Nick Ariondo performing with violinist Paul Stein and Pacific Symphony violist John Acevedo. Ariondo is a master of the accordion and brings a new understanding to one of the oldest mechanical instruments around.

The balance of the programs have not yet been announced.

The Arcadia Public Library Foundation supports the library in numerous ways.  At its July meeting, the Foundation voted to purchase six laptop computers in support an Information and Technology Literacy Learning Lab.  It also funds the online “Homework Helpline” for children.  Newly elected officers for a two-year term are Meredith Brucker, president, Peter Ulrich, vice-president, Bea Chute, treasurer and Alice Wang, secretary.

The Arcadia Public Library is located at 20 W. Duarte Rd., Arcadia. For information, please call (626) 821-5572.
