Arcadia Police Blotter

For the period of Sunday, June 29, through Saturday, July 5, the Arcadia Police Department responded to 1,011 calls for service, of which 115 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, June 29:

Shortly after 11 a.m., Westfield mall security detained a man exiting from a secured rear hallway area carrying a box containing crowbars and possible stolen property from Victoria’s Secret. Investigation further revealed that the suspect was a former security guard who was fired two years ago. The 24-year-old Hispanic was arrested for receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools and a $30,000 outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

A victim came to the station around 11:14 a.m. to file an identity theft report. She indicated that unknown suspect(s) had used her personal identifying information to open at least seven credit card accounts.

Monday, June 30:

At 10:47 a.m., units responded to the 1000 block of Loganrita regarding a residential burglary that occurred between 1 and 7:00 p.m. on June 28. Unknown suspect(s) gained entry into the home by unknown means and took cash and jewelry.

A traffic stop for an expired registration was made at Live Oak and Louise around 2:24 p.m. A 26-year-old male Hispanic driver was contacted and a record check revealed that he was on parole and was never issued a driver’s license. A consent search of the vehicle revealed a high-powered sling shot, tools, 13 various vehicle keys, and four vehicle remotes. The man was arrested at the scene for possession of burglary tools, unlicensed driver and no proof of insurance.

Tuesday, July 1:

Units were called to 143 East Foothill around 2:06 p.m. regarding a man slumped over in a vehicle. A 51-year-old Caucasian was contacted and he admitted to using heroin recently. In plain view, officers saw hypodermic needles in the car. A search of the vehicle was made, and additional syringes, elastic bands and a black tar substance resembling heroin were found. The man was arrested for possession of a narcotic controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Around 7:55 p.m., officers responded to Tripolis Friendship Park, located at Fairview and Golden West, regarding a tree branch falling on a victim who was seated on a park bench. The woman sustained abrasions and initially refused medical treatment; however, she later complained of neck pain and was transported to AMH for treatment.

Wednesday, July 2:

Units were dispatched to the Drinkers Hall of Fame around 1 a.m. in reference to a battery complaint. The victim advised that he argued with another male patron, and the male patron was asked to leave. Subsequently, the patron’s female friend began arguing with the victim, and she grabbed an empty glass and struck him in the side of his neck. The broken glass caused a large laceration to the victim’s neck, and the female suspect fled the scene.

Around 7:11 p.m., officers were called to Victoria’s Secret in reference to a grand theft that occurred earlier in the day. Two male and one female Hispanic suspects stole $1,500 in bras from display drawers.

Thursday, July 3:

Units responded to the 1200 block of South First around 1:19 p.m. regarding a fraud report. Unknown suspect(s) gained access to the victims’ checks and account information and proceeded to write numerous checks totaling $128,000. The victims’ home was burglarized a year ago and the checks were stolen at that time.

Around 5:35 p.m., a traffic stop was initiated at 1271 South Baldwin for an equipment violation. A 16-year-old male Asian driver was contacted and officers detected the odor of burnt tobacco coming from inside the car. A consent search of the vehicle revealed a switchblade knife, canister of teargas and tobacco products. The juvenile claimed that he kept the knife and teargas for protection. He was arrested for possession of a switchblade knife, teargas and tobacco under age 18. He was later cited and released to his mother.

Friday, July 4:

Between 1 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., a burglary occurred in the 300 block of East Colorado. The home is under construction and unknown suspect(s) broke a padlock to the garage and stole new appliances totaling over $3,000.

A commercial burglary occurred at CVS, 9952 Las Tunas around 1:15 p.m. A male Asian, with a shaved head, grabbed two cases of beer and ran out without making payment. As he was exiting the store, he ran into the front door and dropped one of the cases. He then fled in a waiting grey Toyota Corolla.

Saturday, July 5:

An armed robbery occurred at Washington Mutual Bank, 60 East Huntington around 10:30 a.m. A manager from El Pollo Loco was making a deposit when he was confronted by a male Hispanic, 20s, 5’8”, 180 pounds. The suspect demanded the money in Spanish and displayed a handgun. Fearing for his safety, the victim complied with the demand and the suspect fled in a waiting red Chevy Camaro.

Units responded to Public Storage, 1240 Lower Azusa, in reference to a battery incident. The victim advised that during an argument her boyfriend pushed her to the ground and jumped on top of her. He then took her keys to the rented U-Haul truck and attempted to drive away in his personal truck with her two children still inside. The victim was able to jump into the bed of the truck, removed her children, and got her keys back.

Sierra Madre Police Blotter

During the week of Sunday, June 29, to Saturday July 5, the Sierra Madre Police Department responded to approximately 294 calls for service.

Sunday, June 29:

10:51 a.m. – Arrest, Mountain Trail and Montecito Ave. A motorist was stopped for an equipment violation. A records check revealed the driver’s license was expired. The driver was arrested and released on a written promise to appear in court.

Monday, June 30:

2:52 a.m. – Arrest, 1400 block of San Carlos Ave., Arcadia. A man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Investigation revealed the man crashed into a parked vehicle prior to being contacted by Police Officers. The Arcadia resident was booked into Pasadena jail for remand.

Wednesday, July 2:

1:40 a.m. – Theft, 200 block of East Montecito Ave. Unknown suspect(s) removed the front and rear license plates of the victim’s vehicle. The incident took place at an unknown time and location.

Thursday, July 3:

8:37 a.m. – Arrest, Grandview Ave. and Sycamore Place. A motorist was stopped for an equipment violation. A records check revealed the driver’s license was expired. The driver was arrested and released on a written promise to appear in court.

10:27 p.m. – Arrest, 600 block Alta Vista Dr. A man was stopped for the discharge of illegal fireworks. The fireworks were confiscated and the man was arrested and released on a written promise to appear in court.

Friday, July 4:

4:00 p.m. – Arrest, Highland Ave. and Auburn Ave. An officer checked the welfare of a man seen staggering down the street. Investigation revealed the man was intoxicated and unable to care for himself. The man was booked into Pasadena jail for remand.

5:36 p.m. – Arrest, 200 block of Sierra Madre Police Blvd. An officer checked the welfare of a man seen staggering down the street. Investigation revealed the man was intoxicated and unable to care for himself. The man was booked into Pasadena jail for remand.

8:20 p.m. – Arrest, 400 block of West Highland. A man was contacted regarding the possession of illegal fireworks. The fireworks were confiscated and the man was arrested and released on a written promise to appear in court.

9:29 p.m. – Arrest, 200 block of Ramona Ave. A man was contacted regarding the possession of illegal fireworks. The fireworks were confiscated and the man was arrested and released on a written promise to appear in court.

10:15 p.m. – Arrests, 900 block of Michillinda, Pasadena. Officers contacted a man regarding fighting in a parking lot. Investigation revealed the man was intoxicated and unable to care for himself. The man was booked into Pasadena Jail for remand.

Officers stopped one of the man’s companions, a motorist who was under the influence of alcohol. Pasadena PD responded and handled the arrest as it occurred in their city.

Saturday, July 5:

1:06 a.m. – Arrest. 122 N. Baldwin Ave. Officers stopped a motorist who nearly collided with a police car. The man was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested. The Sierra Madre resident was booked into the Pasadena jail.

2:02 a.m. – Arrest, Grandview Ave. and Baldwin Ave. A motorist was stopped for an equipment violation. Investigation revealed the man was driving under the influence of alcohol and in possession of illegal drugs. The Pasadena resident was booked into Pasadena jail for remand.
