Local Socialites Turn Out for “Mask”

The Pasadena Playhouse hothoused new musical “Mask” through April 20.  Book by Anna Hamilton Phelan (Gorillas in the Mist) with songs & lyrics by Cynthia Weill and Barry Mann (“You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling”, “Don’t Know Much”). The Broadway-bound tuneful dramedy starred silver-throated newcomer Allen E. Read as Rocky Dennis, a boy afflicted both a drug-addicted mom and medical condition that enlarges his cranium.
In the sold out audience on Tuesday, April 15, a private party of 50 moms, daughters and friends gathered at the Playhouse for a Girls Night Out to support live theater.  Upstairs in the Gilmore Brown library fusion-inspired hors d’oeuvres served by Elements Kitchen, Pasadena, included beef pithiviers, mini curried chicken salad sandwiches, caprese spring rolls with fresh mozzarella, cheeses and seasonal fruits.
Spotted in the crowd were Darcy Hettrich, VP of Talent for Turner Broadcasting, Julie Thomson, a partner at Vertical Wine Bistro, Hilary Nelson-Jacobs, of the Bach Group non-profit consultants, Irene Thompson, sponsor of NHRA semi-finalist race car driver Bob Bode, Lynne Broughton of Bolton Insurance, and Leisa Blalock, Lynne Westphal and Patricia Ostiller, educators and administrators from Chandler and Maranatha High School.
